Aces Down (The Final Joke)

As winner of a late 2013 contest with “XIII – The Prime“, it was up to me to host the next one. I proposed as theme: “Cards from an Unusual Deck” and this was my render.

Given my role as host, I thought it proper to retire, asking not to vote for my entry. The sponsor decided anyway to assign me an Honourable Mention, something for which I thank him very much.

Theme of this contest was a choice phobia, rendered as an hypotetical movie poster. My choice was for Triskaidekaphobia (fear of number 13 and avoidance to use it).

I tried to make a simple and effective render, giving equal importance both to the subject and the credits, thinking to a real movie poster. A lot of jokes about #13 used as impact sentences. Nothing is added in postwork, all text is 3D text rendered in a plane in front of the camera.

This render won the contest, leaving to me the prizes and the duty to host the next one.

A Game of Shadows

The theme of this contest was “The Twilight Zone”. I entered late the contest and I needed a quick idea for a simple scene. I chose to play with lights and shadows in an ancient house, creating a chain of details leading the observer from a harmless shadow on the wall to a menacing creature outside the window.

To this render was assigned an Honourable Mention by the sponsor.

Another concept for March 2013 contest. The two products used were the space station and the ruined bridge. The inspiration was the old SF movie: “Silent Running”, two tiny but explicit details are present in the scene.
